EUROTOX 2014

Conference

The 50th Congress of the European Societies of Toxicology was held from 7th to the 10th September 2014 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre in Edinburgh.

The congress was organized by the British Toxicology Society and the Local Organizing Committee, and it gathered toxicologists from around the world. The congress was presided by Professor Heather Wallace, a member of the Toxicology Research Editorial Board. Main topic of EUROTOX 2014 was “Advance Science for Human and Environmental Health“ and the exciting programme included keynote lectures by experts in the field, plenary lectures, symposia and workshops. The educational program also included state-of-the-art interactive posters and dynamic trade exhibition. New innovative science and recent regulatory topics as well as key issues the discipline is currently facing were discussed.

Toxicology Research sponsored a poster prize at the event, which was awarded to Katharina Dach from IUF Leibniz Institute for Environmental Medicine, Dusseldorf. Her poster was entitled “Of mice and man: Mechanistic studies on the developmental neurotoxicity of polybrominated diphenyl ethers in 3D in vitro model”.

Since the Congress was held in Edinburgh, it comprised a rich social program too with traditional music and a ceilidh. The conference venue itself was situated in the very center of historic Edinburgh with a great selection of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, museums and galleries in the vicinity. Participants had an opportunity to explore the main sites of the city such as the Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and famous castles dating from 12th century. The full experience of Scotland capital was, as expected, perfected with Scotch whisky and tartan tasting.

EUROTOX 2015 was held in Porto, Portugal, and EUROTOX 2016 in Seville, Spain. EUROTOX 2017 will be held in Bratislava, Slovak Republic from 10th to 13th Septemebr.
